The Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network hosted a Town Hall and a Workshop at the Sixteenth Annual Meeting of the UN Internet Governance Forum (IGF). The 16th annual IGF meeting was hosted by the Government of Poland in Katowice from 6-10 December, under the overarching theme: Internet United.
The I&JPN Town Hall took place on Tuesday, December 7, 2021.
It provided stakeholders with an update on the work of the Policy Network in 2021, in particular the release of I&JPN Toolkits, resource for policymakers and practitioners seeking to develop better policies for the digital era, the knowledge mapping efforts of the Network including the Internet & Jurisdiction and ECLAC Regional Status Report 2020 and activities in Africa, as well as the I&JPN report “We Need to Talk About Data: Framing the Debate Around the Free Flow of Data and Data Sovereignty” and work of the Datasphere Initiative currently being incubated by the Policy Network.
I&JPN also organized a workshop on leveraging sustainable digital transformation in partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean on IGF Day 3, Thursday December 9, 2021.
The workshop gathered regional stakeholders to share initiatives leveraging sustainable digital transformation in the global south and outlined ways to build more inclusive digital cooperation. The workshop discussed how to advance global digital cooperation as well as the different instruments and tools stakeholders need to effectively cooperate around internet governance challenges.
The Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network has participated in the IGF since 2012 with special sessions and workshops.
